Complaint Process

​​How to file a complaint and what to expect

201 KAR 15:080 Complaints of Violations - This legislative regulation clearly address the complaint process and is the course for this content. 

If you wish to file a complaint against an embalmer, funeral director, a funeral establishment or an apprentice it must:

  • be made in writing to the Board
  • be signed by the person making the complaint

You do not need to be a licensed funeral services individual to file a complaint. 

Complaint Process

  1. Write
    • Must be signed
    • Provide as much detail as possible
  2. Submit
    • Email - kbefd@ky.gov or

      Louisville, KY 40222
  3. Response Requested
    • Respondent sent complaint via certified mail
    • Respondent has 20 days to respond
  4. Present
    • Complaint and response reviewed by Board
    • Action could be taken or investigation initiated
  5. Investigate
    • Report back to Board
  6. Determination
    • Based on information Board makes recommendation or action
  7. Notify
    • KBEFD notifies complainant and respondent of determination
