Welcome to the Board of Embalmers & Funeral Directors

T​​his agency consists of 5 Board members, 3 office staff and 1 inspector. The Board includes four licensed funeral directors and embalmers and one public (consumer) member. Their objective is to prescribe the standards of efficiency for those who are engaged in the practice of funeral directing and embalming.

The Board adopts, promulgates and enforces regulations for the transaction of its business, the management of its affairs, and the promotion of the educational standards of the profession, as it considers expedient and consistent with KRS Chapter 316.

The Board is self-supporting through fees assessed for professional licensure. The agency receives no general fund tax appropriation.

                                                       New Regulation Notice!!!!!

As of November 17, 2017 the following Kentucky Administrative Regulations have been approved:

201 KAR 15:110(11) has been deleted.

201 KAR 15:030 addresses continuing education sponsor programs, document processing fees, and Level II apprenticeship fees. Licensure fees have NOT been increased.

Please be advised of the following fee changes:

Continuing Education Sponsor Application: $150 per program, not to exceed $600

Level II Apprentice Application: $50 per licensure type

Processing Fee: $25 (includes any actions not covered by other established statues or regulations such as national exams scores, out-of-state verifications, name changes, etc.)

Individual and Establishment Licensure fees have NOT increased.


Board Meeting Deadline

The March Board meeting will be on March 6, 2018 at the Crowne Plaza 830 Phillips Ln, in Louisville, KY. The deadline for this meeting is February 22, 2018. Please make sure that all paperwork is typed and everything is included in the packet when mailed to the Board office. If the forms are not typed or complete you will not be put on the agenda.

There will be no March exam.  The deadline for the June exams is April 27. Any reciprocal wishing to take the June exam must meet with the board at a regularly scheduled board meeting. See website or contact the board office for more information.

 All exam applications MUST be typed when submitted into the Board office with all required documents included. If the applications are not typed, the Board office will mark the packet incomplete and you will not be placed on the exam list to be approved by the Board. Everyone taking the Exam will receive a letter with the time, date and location of the exam.
